Implementing and maintaining HSE processes involves a coordinated set of management functions at all levels within the Drilling and Production Systems organization. In addition to these functions outlined below, each business area has developed a set of operational controls to address regional regulatory requirements, as well as specific operations and activities.
Management of change
The ability to make operational and procedural changes is essential to a successful HSE program. Yet, changes that are not adequately controlled and communicated often appear as a contributing factor in many severe incidents. The Drilling and Production Systems Management System includes specific actions for notifying affected employees of a process or procedural change to pre-vent such an incident from occurring.
Structure and responsibility
Everyone within the Drilling and Production Systems organization has a role to play in the success of our HSE program. Therefore, each employee’s responsibilities with regard to the HSE Management System is clearly defined and communicated. All Drilling and Production Systems employees are provided the necessary resources, leadership, support and equipment to establish, implement and maintain an effective HSE program.
Consultation and communication

Document and data control
Effective document and data control is an important link in providing current and accurate information regarding the HSE Management System. Drilling and Production Systems has processes in place to review, store and distribute relevant documents and data encompassed in the system.
Training, awareness and competency requirements
Ensuring that employees are aware, trained and competent in minimizing and eliminating hazards and risks is a critical component in providing a safe and healthy workplace. The process for identifying, documenting and delivering any appropriate training and consultation takes into considera-tion each employee’s skills, knowledge and attitudes, which are necessary to conduct operations safely under various circumstances.
Emergency response procedures
Actions taken immediately following an emergency situation can significant-ly reduce or minimize danger to personnel, the environment or property. The Drilling and Production Systems HSE Management System requires establishing and rehearsing emergency response procedures to ensure personnel are prepared to take the appropriate actions in the event of an emergency.
