Petreco® Crude Oil Separators

Advanced Crude Oil Separators for onshore and offshore oilfield applications.

Overview
Petreco offers a complete line of products for medium to large comprehensive oil and gas production facilities. Our equipment is installed in some of the largest and most diverse production regions in the world. We have developed a reputation for providing products of superior quality and state-of-the-art design.

Operating Principle & Key Features
The separation of produced well streams of oil, gas, and water into separate phases can be achieved with specialized vertical and horizontal vessels, sized according to process requirements. These may take the form of primary 2 or 3-Phase Separators, which split the produced well fluid into oil, water, and gas phases, or more specialized oil treatment equipment.

There are many standard separator features and special options available to meet your specific needs including:

Internals

  • Inlet baffles
  • Anti-wave/distribution baffles
  • Removable gas dome
  • Oil & water coalescer devices
  • De-foaming baffles
  • Mist extractors
  • Anti-vortex devices
  • Float protectors
  • Oil/water/sand weirs
  • Manual or automatic desanding system

Vessel Design

  • Low, medium, and high pressure designs
  • Sludge and/or solids drains
  • Critically located sample drawoffs
  • Custom internal configurations
  • Removable stainless steel internals
  • Stainless desand flush/drain systems
  • Service manways
  • Special/severe service vessel materials
  • ASME Section VIII Div I (or equivalent) designs
  • NACE compliant for sour service
  • Low temperature materials for Arctic regions
  • Internal anti-corrosion coatings

Controls & Safety Features

  • Operation level and safety controls
  • Safety relief devices
  • Full fluids metering
  • Electronic PLC control systems

Performance
Operating in remote jungles, arctic conditions, or offshore demands reliable online performance from all equipment - especially separators. High capacity, top quality, proven experience, and safety are key in harsh environments, where the high costs of a shutdown can create serious problems.

Product Range

  • Flow rates from 1,000 BPD to 200,000 BPD
  • Inlet crude oil streams with 0 to 98% Water
  • Up to 300 mmscfd Gas separated with less than 0.1% carryover.
  • Special inlet designs available for de-foaming and surge/slug protection

Benefits & Advantages

  • Custom Designs engineered for your specific operating conditions
  • Many Standard Designs available for diverse ranges of conditions
  • Wide range of experience in many operating environments and conditions
  • We have successfully separated some of the most difficult crudes in the world, including heavy "bitumen" and high wax crudes

Our units are operating worldwide in all environments from the arid desert at +120°F (+50°C); to the desolate Arctic at -70°F (-55°C)

Options & Types
Petreco offers a wide range of Multi-Phase Separators, engineered to the specific application and location. This ensures that the design will efficiently separate all of the inlet well fluids into the proper streams for further processing. Our 3-Phase Separators are typically fitted with inlet devices to disperse the momentum of the inlet fluid, as well as a series of internal baffles. Also, coalescers, cyclones, or vanes can be installed to minimize disturbance and aid separation. Momentum of the crude oil flow is absorbed at the inlet, releasing gas, which rises while the liquid falls into the lower portion of the vessel. With the appropriate settling time, the heavier free water settles beneath the lighter oil. Inlet flow surges are dissipated by distribution control baffles. This promotes crude oil stabilization prior to the next stage of oil processing. Liquid levels are maintained by weirs and float actuated control valves. Oil can be discharged from the unit through two or more splitting compartments. With the addition of optional externally-adjustable weirs, fluid levels may be easily changed as needed. Water is discharged out of a single outlet. Gas is discharged through a separate outlet, controlled by a gas back-pressure valve.

Applications
Oil Field Production

  • Onshore & Offshore
  • FPSOs

Heavy Crude Oil Applications
The treatment of heavy crude oil of 6º to 12º API poses many special problems caused by the high viscosity, low liquid density differential, and the poor heat transfer characteristics of these fluids. Additionally, suspended sand is often present in the inlet streams, necessitating sand jet systems for flushing sand from the equipment. We have developed special coalescing devices for assisting removal of suspended water and sand from heavy oils. Our experience with heavy crudes in Canada, Venezuela, and Russia has given us the expertise and understanding required to design the equipment to meet your demanding needs.
