The Gimbal is installed between the HX Spider and the rotary table. It is used to reduce shock and to evenly distribute loads on the spider as well as the riser sections. The standard gimbal is equipped with six bearings (shock absorbers) and has a load rating to 850,000 pounds. By increasing the number of bearings, the gimbal load rating can be adjusted to meet customer requirements. The maximum angle of deflection is 5 degrees.
