The high performance LEFM 240 series flow meters have four ultrasonic paths. The LEFM 240C consists of a meter body and a remotely mounted signal processing transmitter. The LEFM 240Ci has a compact transmitter enclosure that can be integrally or remotely mounted to the meter body. Within the meter body are four (4) pairs of fully integrated, high performance, wetted ultrasonic transducers forming four chordal paths. These paths cross the flow stream at a 45o angle so that there is a difference in the transit time of the ultrasonic signals, depending on whether the sound pulse is traveling with or against the direction of flow. The difference in transit times is measured along each path. The electronics performs an integration of axial velocity for each segment. Path locations and integration methodology comply with numerical integration rules specified by the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. Years of hydraulic calibration data confirm that an ultrasonic flow meter based on Gaussian integration combined with a four path design can be used on a broad range of axial velocity profiles with high precision. The transducers in the meter body can be replaced without depressurizing the process.
The four path design of the LEFM 240 series meters are ideally suited for custody transfer grade or fiscal measurement applications. The LEFM 240 ensures linearity over a wide flow range and handles a range of petroleum fluids including crude oils, refined products and blends. Its versatility allows application in single or multiple product pipelines, as well as ship loading/off loading and off-shore applications.
