Caldon® LEFM® 280C

The compact, high performance LEFM 280C has eight ultrasonic paths.  The LEFM 280C consists of a spool piece and a signal processing transmitter.  The transmitter is remote mounted from the spool piece.  Within the spool piece are eight (8) pairs of fully integrated, high performance, wetted ultrasonic transducers forming eight chordal paths.  These paths cross the flow stream at a 45o angle so that there is a difference in the transit time of the ultrasonic signals, depending on whether the sound pulse is traveling with or against the direction of flow. The difference in transit times is measured along each path.  The LEFM 280C has a two plane design that is the equivalent of two LEFM 240C meters.  Each four path set of transducers has a dedicated set of electronics. The electronics performs an integration of axial velocity for each segment.  Path locations and integration methodology comply with numerical integration rules specified by the mathematician Carl Friedrich Gauss. The transducers in the spool can be replaced without depressurizing the process or interrupting the flow.

The LEFM 280C offers the highest level of performance of any ultrasonic flow meter. It is a “master meter” in every sense of the phrase.  It can be used in confidence on applications where provers are not practical, or where space and weight allowances are limited.  The factory calibration remains valid for even very poor installation conditions.  The LEFM 280C typically requires only five (5) diameters of straight piping upstream for flow conditioning.  The two measurement planes eliminate any effects from centered or off-centered swirl and non-axial flow.  This has been proven in years of hydraulic testing in extremely difficult installation conditions.

The eight path design of the LEFM 280C is ideally suited for custody transfer grade or fiscal measurement applications.  The LEFM 280C ensures linearity over a wide flow range and handles a wide range of petroleum fluids including crude oils, refined products and blends.  Its versatility allows application in single or multiple product pipelines, as well as ship loading/off loading and off-shore applications.
